Public Heath Pitch Competition
CALL FOR STUDENT PROPOSALS
as part of the UPenn PRC Symposium
“Accelerating Policies and Research on Public Health and Disease Prevention”
The Public Health Pitch competition takes place on Thursday, April 27th from 4 pm – 6 pm in the auditorum of the Biomedical Research Building(BRB) on the Penn campus. A reception follows.
Here is your opportunity to share something you are passionate about in the fields of public health, prevention research, nutrition or health policy. There are two ways to participate – a poster/pitch competition or a lecture-style pitch competition
- Poster/pitch: Create a poster on the topic of your choice to be displayed during a poster session. When the panel of judges arrives at your poster, you have 5 minutes to deliver your “pitch”.
- Lecture-style pitch: The “lecture style” pitches will follow the poster session. Each participant has 6-8 minutes to deliver a pitch to the auditorium audience. Use of slides or visuals is optional.
How to apply:
Send a brief description of your pitch (no more than 250 words) to Victoria Worthen (email@example.com) . Please put “Student Pitch Competition” in the subject line. Your description should include:
- Whether you wish to be considered as a poster pitch, lecture-style pitch or both.
- Your topic
- The problem or issue you are addressing
- Your “pitch” on this problem
The deadline to apply is April 7th. Accepted entries will be announced shortly thereafter.
Who can apply:
Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply. Students are allowed to work in groups, but only one person from the group can present the “pitch”.
A panel of national experts will be judging each pitch on a rubric. Audience members also have the opportunity to vote on their favorite pitches and posters.
First place winners will receive $100 prizes. Prizes will be awarded in each of the following categories: undergraduate poster pitch, undergraduate lecture-style pitch, graduate poster pitch, graduate lecture-style pitch and a People’s Choice award based on audience vote.
